Singapore Punggol Waterway blue hour

Via Flickr:
Call it stubbornness or determination that i manage to "squeeze" out a photo taking session….
On my way to the punggol waterway… it started to drizzle with dark cloud over hang the sky and the thought of a nice sun rise is far within sight……
I decided to stick to my decision to go to punggol waterway , instead of turning back home….with my *finger crossed*
Luck was on my side as the rain stop and the some cloud disperse for me to catch a glimpse of the sunset sight……

Singapore Ion Orchard
.........

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

ION Orchard (Chinese: 乌节弯), formerly known as the Orchard Turn Development or Orchard Turn Site, is a shopping mall by Orchard Turn Developments Pte Ltd , a joint venture between CapitaLand and Sun Hung Kai Properties, and started operating on 21 July 2009.[1] The Orchard Residences, a high-rise residential condominium, will also be built together with the shopping mall under the same developer, manager and owner, and is expected to be completed by late 2009.[2] Orchard Turn Developments Pte Ltd only have a 99-year leasehold with effect from 13 March 2006.[3]
Located along the prime shopping district of Singapore, Orchard Road, The Orchard Residences will be the tallest building along the shopping district, standing at 218 metres.[citation needed]This residential building will have a total of 175 residential units from the ninth floor to the 54th floor once completed, four of which are penthouses.[3] During the first phase of the sale of 98 units, the units were sold for an average of S$3213 per sq ft.[2] Orchard Road's newest shopping mall, ION Orchard, has 335 food and retail outlets.[4]

Singapore CK Tangs

In 1932, Tang was able to embark on a larger venture, having accumulated sufficient funds through hard work. He established a department store in 1932 with an initial capital of S$3,000. Tang set up his first shop on the first floor of a building on River Valley Road, selling craft products from China.
Subsequently in 1940, Tang financed the construction of a new building at the corner of Jalan Mohamed Sultan and River Valley Road to house a new department store. He called the new edifice Gainurn Building, a variation of his father's name Tang Gan Urn. The department store sold a vast array of merchandise. By the 1950s, CK Tang had opened several more branches.
In 1958, Tang bought a 1,351-square metre piece of land at the corner of Orchard Road and Scotts Road at a cost of S$10,000 to further his vision of expanding his business. Although the site faced the Tai San Ting Cemetery, he felt that it had commercial value as many British housewives in the Tanglin area could stop by on their way to the city. The decision was made against the advice of fellow businessmen who thought Orchard Road was unfashionablethen. Years later, when the Singapore Government designated and developed Orchard Road as a prime shopping and tourist district, the price of land soared from S$3 per m² to S$6,000 per m².
With the acquired land plot, Tang constructed the landmark C.K. Tang Department Store (now rebranded as Tangs) at 310 Orchard Road at a cost of S$50,000. The building's green-tiled roof and facade was modelled after theImperial Palace of the Forbidden City in Beijing. In 1960, Tang voluntarily closed the store due to problems with the trade unions, but Tangs was re-opened the following year. In 1975, Tang's company was publicly listed.

Marriott Hotel, Singapore (formerly theDynasty Hotel) and Tang Plaza were built in 1982 to expand Tang Choon Keng's business on Orchard Road.
In the late 1970s, Tang expanded his business again when he decided to develop the neighbouring property lots which he had bought years before. In 1982, the building on Orchard Road was demolished to make way for the new Tang complex, comprising the 33-storey deluxe Dynasty Hotel (now the Singapore Marriott Hotel) and the Tangs shopping complex (now Tang Plaza). The shopping complex consists of five floors of retail space covering more than 15,000 m², marketed under the slogan "All The Best Under One Roof".
In 1991, Tangs opened its first overseas branch in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Tang also collaborated with Malaysia's Mayang Sari Bhd to develop real estate, hotels and commercial properties in Kuala Lumpur. He also assisted the Dairy Farm International Holdings in its retail business in Malaysia.
Until 1996, Tangs was the only major shopping centre in Singapore to not operate on Sundays, in deference to Tang's Christian faith. Tang instituted the policy so that his family and Christian staff could attend church on Sundays. As a staunch Christian, Tang spoke of honesty and hard work as his guiding principles.
Tang's distinctive management philosophy was the focus on people, both customers and staff. Emphasis was given to quality of the staff, reasonable pricing and warm service. Tang believed in investing in his staff, as his frontline staff would be the ones who would be in direct contact with the customers and he believed that the image of the store depended on them. As a result, Tang reserved a substantial annual budget for staff training, which included tailored programs for sales staff, supervisors and management. Supervisors and managers were expected to undergo a minimum 100 hours of training. Tang also made an effort to get in touch with his staff at all levels, in order understand his customers' expectations on product and service quality. Despite the company's poor financial results in certain years, Tangs retained its reputation for good service and reliability.
Tang retired in 1987, handing the reins of corporate leadership to the second of his three sons, Tang Wee Sung. However, Tang retained the post of company president and was rarely out of touch with company business, personally checking the company's accounts and meeting suppliers.

Singapore - Bishan Park beautiful skyline at Dawn

Via Flickr:
Bishan park is currently undergoing construction work to develop it's original concrete canal to a natural river.

Singapore Government is currently having a plan to connect all the parks together and Bishan park is one of it.

CS5 is a very power tool...and here i am challenging myself on my old photo that i think i need to improve on.

Designer of the park is Atelier Dreiseitl.
about Atelier Dreiseitl. taken from www.dreiseitl.net/index.php?id=518&lang=en

Atelier Dreiseitl was formed in 1980 by Herbert Dreiseitl with a goal to promote sustainable projects with a high aesthetic and social value. The Atelier is a multidisciplinary practice specialized in integrating art, urban hydrology, environmental engineering and landscape architecture within an urban context. With a particular focus on water, one of the most essential and threatened natural resources on the planet, the practice seeks to awaken a new understanding of sustainability while implementing comprehensive design solutions.

The scope of the practice’s work includes integrated sustainable and stormwater design for urban parks, urban plazas, water features, swimming pools, water playgrounds, external and internal water features and housing developments from master planning through to construction supervision. Atelier Dreiseitl has more than 25 years of experience in technical water systems, including rainwater harvesting, storage, treatment and reuse, retention and infiltration techniques, grey and black water systems, heat exchange and climatization using water, natural water treatment systems, water flow patterns, green roofs, water proofing and water feature detailing. We have internationally led and participated in community design workshops.

In an in-house workshop, the practice builds scale models up to 1:1 to test water behaviour and detailing of proposed water features. As well as being committed to constantly striving to improve water technology and best management practice, the Atelier prides itself on multidisciplinary interaction within and without the practice, and its experience and success with working in joint ventures with other professionals.

About BishanPark

This beautiful park, with its lakes and bridges, colourful shrubs and lush greenery, is one of the largest and most popular parks in Singapore. Divided into two plots, Pond Gardens (formerly Bishan Park 1) and River Plains (formerly Bishan Park 2), Bishan Park caters to park users of all ages with exciting features, including community gardens, a landmark viewpoint with a sculpture (entitled, An Enclosure for a Swing), three exciting playgrounds (each with its own a distinctive theme), and a River Promenade.
One of the main highlights of the park is the naturalised, meandering river that transforms into a flood plain during stormy weather. Restored and reshaped from a concretised canal, the river will bring park users closer to the water to enjoy its serenity and beauty.
The meandering river and the new facilities are products of the joint collaboration between NParks and PUB, under the latter Active, Beautiful and Clean Waters (ABC Waters) Programme. For more details, please refer to the following press release.

Facilities Available
Shelters, Restroom / Toilets with or without shower facilities, Playground, Garden spa, Foot reflexology footpath, Fitness corner/ stations & fitness equipment/ exercise station, Food & beverage area/ restaurant/ cafe, Dog run corner

Singapore Airshow - Unauthorized Visitor

Via Flickr:
It was my first time visiting the Singapore air show. I was totally excited by the spectacular aerial display performance. One of the main highlight of the event is the debut of F-15SG , which was paired up with another fighter jet , F16C to put up a stunning show. The performance by Team Blair Aerosports' Rebel300 and RAAF Roulettes from Australia are equally exciting.

However, i was quite disappointed by the static display as it was swarmed by crowds and was not able to get much nice shots. And also, not forgetting that the rain pours even before i really see much of the static display.

Kudos to this 2 birds that stand at it's spot throughout the 3-3:30pm aerialshows despite the roaring sounds made by the planes !

Asia's biggest for Aviation's Finest

The Singapore Airshow, among the world's Top 3 aviation events, is the largest aerospace and defence event in Asia.

Singapore - Bishan Park

Singapore - Bishan Park by gw.wang
Singapore - Bishan Park, a photo by gw.wang on Flickr.

Bishan park is currently undergoing construction work to develop it's original concrete canal to a natural river.

Singapore Government is currently having a plan to connect all the parks together and Bishan park is one of it.

CS5 is a very power tool...and here i am challenging myself on my old photo that i think i need to improve on

About BishanPark
taken from www.nparks.gov.sg
..

Valentine's Day..
.. ..
Saint Valentine's Day, often simply Valentine's Day,[1][2][3] is a holiday observed on February 14 honoring one or more early Christian martyrs named Valentinus. It was first established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD, and was later deleted from the General Roman Calendar of saints in 1969 by Pope Paul VI. It is celebrated in countries around the world, mostly in theWest, although it remains a working day in all of them.
The day first became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished. By the 15th century, it had evolved into an occasion in which lovers expressed their love for each other by presenting flowers, offering confectionery, and sending greeting cards (known as "valentines").[1][3]
Modern Valentine's Day symbols include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten valentines have given way to mass-produced greeting cards.[4]

Singapore Sunset at Punggol Waterway

Via Flickr:
Beening held at work and not being able to take photos for quite a while….. It was then i decided to go to punggol waterway that is near my house.
I am lucky to be able to upload these photos because on the way back home , my bike tyre burst and it skid but luckily i was unable to counter steer to prevent any drastic accident….
I was with my girlfriend then and we took the train home leaving the bike for towing….

What an excited day !

I had post processing using HDR vs digital blending technique and found out that i still prefer digital blending as the final output provide a nicer photo !

For this photo, i must give credit to my girlfriend whom is my photo-taking companion...Giving opinion on the composition.....And always patient waiting for my session to end without complaining.......
Without her support and understanding , i dont think i will be able to take up photography as an alternative after my downfall in my knee agony !

Punggol Waterway..
.. ..
My Waterway@Punggol is Singapore’s first man-made waterway and it traverses through the entire Punggol eco-town.
The 4.2km waterway connects Punggol Reservoir to Serangoon Reservoir. With the completion of Punggol Waterway, residents can now look forward to a new generation of waterfront housing with a vibrant mix of commercial and leisure attractions.
It was launched on 23rd october 2011 with an event called Punggol Waterway Fiests. The main highlight were eco festival Market , Family Fun , Carnival and heritage. PM Lee Hsien Loong was the guest of honor and firework display was held !
